CCN, Cilegon. Ubrug Cilegon successfully held an Ubrug performance at the Cilegon Fest 2023 event titled “Rangde Anak Siji” on Monday evening, May 8th, 2023.

Ubrug Cilegon consists of several communities and art studios in Cilegon who successfully collaborated with other communities such as Teater Wonk Kite, Sanggar Sumur Jambu, Sanggar Barengan, and musicians from Peguron Pencak Silat Naga Mas.

In modern times like today, traditional art like Ubrug also plays an important role in preserving culture and introducing it to the younger generation. By introducing traditional Ubrug art, the younger generation can understand the importance of cultural heritage and appreciate the cultural values ​​passed down by their ancestors.

The performance began with a martial arts play from PPS Naga Mas and continued with an Ubrug play performed by several actors such as Dedi (Teh Dewi/Janda), Opank (Preman), Iqbal (Preman), Rizky (Mandor Pabrik), Tamam (Pak RT), Rizki Bolang (Anak Janda), and Silvi (Istri Mandor). Additionally, there was also an artistic team and a makeup team consisting of Riris, Farhan, Imelda, Yana, and Yoga. The performance was directed by Roni Gesenk and produced by Ahdi Amri.

Dedi, one of the actors, revealed that the performance was extraordinary due to the high enthusiasm of the audience. “It was amazing, and the audience’s enthusiasm was extraordinary because we performed Ubrug in the local language or Javanese language of Cilegon and the audience understood what we said, indicating that our language is not foreign to their ears,” he said.

The traditional Ubrug art of Cilegon can be a draw for visitors to the Cilegon Fest 2023. The government and society can utilize the potential of traditional Ubrug art to preserve Ubrug culture, thus introducing local identity and local wisdom.

Rizky, Secretary-General of Teater Wonk Kite, hopes that the Cilegon community can preserve this Ubrug culture. “This performance was very good and lively, especially with the Ubrug performance that was collaborated with other studios and communities in the city of Cilegon. The amazing audience filled every corner of the square, and that made us proud to present this local performance of Ubrug. I hope more people in Cilegon will want to preserve this Ubrug culture,” he said.
