CCN, Cilegon. The Chairman of the Cilegon of Al-Khairiyah Youth Association DPD, Muhammad Nukhfi Kudrotillah, along with Secretary Imam Mutaqin, visited the Cilegon Electoral Commission (KPU) office on Wednesday, August 2, 2023.

Alhamdulillah (praise be to God), the visit was warmly received and directly welcomed by the Cilegon Electoral Commission Commissioner, Urip Haryantoni, and his team on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM WIB. The meeting took place at the KPU Cilegon office located at Jalan Kyai Haji Abdul Latif Blok J No. 2, Bendungan, Kec. Cilegon, Cilegon City.

The purpose of this visit was to foster closer ties in relation to the 2024 election process, which is approaching soon. Additionally, it was to discuss concerns regarding certain online news that we brought, seeking confirmation from the Cilegon Electoral Commission about the accuracy of its contents. The news reported the case of a member of the Cilegon City DPRD (Regional People’s Representative Council) who decided to switch to another party while still actively serving as a Council Member in the previous party. This transition was made without undergoing the proper Replacement of Members procedure (PAW), and then the member registered as a Legislative Candidate for the 2024 Elections from a different party, while still currently holding an active position as a DPRD member in the previous party. We seek the confirmation and response from the Cilegon Electoral Commission regarding the ethical and legal aspects of this matter.

Beginning the discussion, Chairman Muhammad Nukhfi Kudrotillah of HPA Cilegon emphasized that the youth are agents of change, possessing moral and intellectual strength to build the nation’s civilization, including fostering peace and justice in the social and political realms within their communities.

“Youth must have an understanding of the philosophy of democracy and elections,” he said.

Nukfi also emphasized the importance for all parties to exercise discernment in choosing leaders and representatives who will be elected and serve in the parliament. It is our collective hope to have leaders and representatives from democracy who are honest, fair, intelligent, and healthy, to nurture a generation of individuals with integrity for the progress of the nation. We will advocate and raise awareness that candidates who disregard ethical standards should not be chosen in the upcoming Elections, as they may lack integrity towards their party, society, and the country.

“And that is why we must earnestly and consistently instill and promote the values of democracy within our society and stress the significance of the community’s involvement in the electoral process as the holder of political sovereignty,” added Nukfi.
