CCN, Cilegon. PT Krakatau Bandar Samudera (KBS), in collaboration with three affiliated schools in the Adiwiyata School program, namely SDN Ciwandan, SDN Jangkar, and SDN Temugiring, has been honored with the Adiwiyata School award at the city level in Cilegon. The award was presented by Mayor Cilegon Helldy Agustian during the National Awareness Day commemoration event on Monday, September 18, 2023, at the Cilegon City Hall courtyard.

This award recognizes KBS’s dedication to environmental efforts in nurturing Adiwiyata schools within the port’s operational area. The Adiwiyata School program is a sustainable initiative jointly initiated with the Eswka Foundation.

The mentoring process includes school identification, program planning, monitoring and evaluation, and the provision of supporting facilities such as the Green House, which serves as a learning method for students.

Following these stages, an assessment was conducted by the Cilegon City Environmental Office for these three schools, deeming them worthy of the Adiwiyata School status at the city level.

Sari Mulianah, VP Corporate Secretary of PT KBS, stated that the Adiwiyata School program is an environmentally-based TJSL program in collaboration with the education sector, promoting sustainability. PT KBS, together with Eswka, provides mentoring to three elementary schools with the goal of character education for students. Education serves as the gateway to strengthening a child’s character.

“Education is the gateway to strengthening a child’s character. Krakatau Bandar Samudera is committed to nurturing schools with the aim of character development while fostering sustainable environmental knowledge through the Adiwiyata School program,” she said.

Sari added that through the mentoring of Adiwiyata schools, KBS is committed to contributing to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through education and environmental indicators.

“We are committed to contributing to SDGs under points 4 and 13,” she emphasized.

At the same event, Tati Fatayati, the head of SDN Ciwandan, representing KBS’s affiliated school, expressed gratitude for the Adiwiyata school designation awarded to her school. She believes that KBS’s mentoring, in collaboration with Eswka, has had an impact on the program’s sustainability, particularly in achieving goals aligned with the School Environmental Culture Movement (GBHLS).

“From the school’s identification to its implementation, we have followed the criteria outlined in GBHLS, which is the basis for evaluating the school,” she explained.

Tati also emphasized that it is not just the outcomes that matter but also the process, as it plays a significant role in embedding these practices as a cultural norm within their school.

“All school community members, including parents, have collaborated to ensure the success of this Adiwiyata School program,” Tati concluded. (***)
