CCN, Cilegon, July 13, 2024** – The atmosphere of the circumcision celebration in the Gerem area that night was more festive with the presence of Ubrug Cilegon. The folk theater performance, held as part of the circumcision celebration, successfully entertained the invited guests and local residents with a performance full of joy and moral messages.
Dedi Supriyadi, the host of the event, expressed his happiness with the presence of Ubrug Cilegon at the celebration. “We are very pleased and proud to present Ubrug Cilegon, a folk theater, at this circumcision event. Their performance not only entertains but also reintroduces local cultural values to the younger generation. This is part of our effort to preserve the traditions and culture of Cilegon,” he said.
Dedi also added that this was the first time Ubrug Cilegon performed in a contemporary format in the Gerem area. “Previously, the ubrug performances were usually accompanied by kendang pencak and were more comedic. If the venue were more spacious, there would likely be more viewers than yesterday. Due to space limitations, the audience was crowded, and many could not enjoy the performance until the end because their view was blocked from behind,” he explained.
Dedi added, “This is an extraordinary public entertainment. We hope there will be more performances like this in the community, not just at celebrations, but maybe at other events as well. More than 200 spectators likely attended, as all 150 chairs were filled, and many were standing, even from nearby houses.”
Ahmad Faldi, a representative from Ubrug Cilegon, stated that the performance at the circumcision celebration was one form of their dedication to preserving traditional arts. “We are very grateful for the invitation from Dedi Supriyadi’s family. This performance is an opportunity for us to continue spreading cultural messages and local values to the community. We hope that through performances like this, more young people will be interested and care about the original culture of Cilegon,” said Ahmad.
The Ubrug Cilegon performance that night captivated all the guests’ attention with its folk tales and direct interaction with the audience. Traditional Cilegon cuisine like Awug-awug was also served, adding to the cultural richness of the celebration.
