CCN, Cilegon, July 29, 2024 – The Regional Water Supply Company (PDAM) of Cilegon City has announced plans to distribute water to the Pulo Merak District in 2024 to assist residents in facing the dry season.
Acting Director of PDAM Cilegon City, Ikhwan Kurniawan, explained that the Pulo Merak area often experiences water shortages during the dry season. Therefore, PDAM plans to distribute water through piping as a long-term solution. “Usually, the community relies on bore wells. However, we are trying a new approach with piping. Although this will not completely solve the water shortage issue, thorough preparation is needed as the pipes will be installed along the railway corridor,” said Ikhwan.
He added that permits and coordination with various parties, including PT Kereta Api, are currently in process. “We still have a quota of water that can be channeled to the Pulo Merak District and its surroundings. We are currently in the preparation stage for permits and other requirements, with assistance from the Cilegon District Attorney’s Office to ensure everything proceeds according to regulations,” he explained.
This plan includes the installation of approximately five kilometers of piping along the railway corridor. “We have coordinated with PT Kereta Api regarding the selection of pipe installation locations to avoid disrupting community activities. Tight coordination is necessary due to the railway activities that need to be considered,” added Ikhwan.
Ikhwan also emphasized the importance of ongoing coordination with PT Kereta Api to avoid issues during the planning and implementation stages. “We hope this plan can be realized this year. Our target is to start physical work no later than the third quarter of this year, so that water services in Pulo Merak can be improved,” he concluded.
