CCN, CILEGON, Indonesia – January 3, 2026 – The Speaker of the Cilegon City Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), Rizki Khairul Ichwan, conducted a direct on-site assessment of several flood-affected areas in Jombang and Cibeber Districts on Saturday evening, as part of efforts to identify the root causes of recent flooding and accelerate mitigation measures.
During the inspection, Rizki visited multiple locations that remained inundated, including Kenanga Neighborhood and Jombang Kali Neighborhood in Masigit Sub-district, Kranggot Neighborhood in Sukmajaya Sub-district, Jombang District, and Karang Tengah Neighborhood in Kedaleman Sub-district, Cibeber District.
The assessment took place from 7:00 p.m. to midnight, covering areas that continued to experience flooding following several days of intense rainfall, which led to river overflows in multiple locations.
In Kenanga Neighborhood (RW 04), Masigit Sub-district, floodwaters submerged residential areas and a local school, reaching nearly knee level for adults. Rizki emphasized the urgency of river normalization and the reinforcement and elevation of river embankment retaining walls (TPT) along critical sections.
“This area requires immediate river normalization and the strengthening of embankment structures to prevent recurring floods,” Rizki stated.
While floodwaters had receded in Jombang Kali Neighborhood (RW 09), standing water remained in Kranggot Neighborhood, affecting residential homes and main access roads. Meanwhile, in Karang Tengah Neighborhood, floodwaters reaching adult waist height continued to impact approximately 500 households.
The Speaker, a senior figure of the Golkar Party, underscored the importance of comprehensive river management across Cilegon City as a long-term strategy for flood prevention.
“We have documented all contributing factors identified during this field assessment. These findings will be formally submitted to the Mayor to ensure prompt and coordinated action, with a focus on preventing similar flood incidents in the future,” he said.
In addition to conducting the assessment, Rizki also distributed emergency relief supplies, including rice and instant noodles, to residents currently sheltering in temporary evacuation centers.(red)
