CCN, Cilegon – The Cultural Heritage Preservation Office (BPK) Region VIII, in collaboration with the Cilegon City Cultural Council, has carried out data collection activities on several objects suspected to be Cultural Heritage within Cilegon City.
The aim of this initiative is to identify, document, and classify cultural remains that hold historical, scientific, educational, religious, and cultural value. This step is part of ongoing efforts to preserve cultural heritage, as mandated by Law No. 11 of 2010 on Cultural Heritage.
Chairman of the Cilegon City Cultural Council, Ayatullah Khumaeni, emphasized that this collaboration reflects an important synergy between the central and regional governments in safeguarding local cultural wealth.
“This data collection is expected to serve as an initial step toward the designation of Cultural Heritage status, ensuring that our ancestral legacy can be protected and utilized for the benefit of the wider community,” he said on Monday, September 8, 2025.
The joint team conducted direct surveys at several locations that indicate potential historical significance, including old buildings, religious sites, and ancient artifacts still preserved within local communities.
Meanwhile, Turmudi, representing BPK Region VIII, stressed the importance of community participation in providing information on objects that may qualify as Cultural Heritage.
“Without community involvement, preservation efforts will not be optimal. We invite all parties to work together in safeguarding and maintaining this cultural legacy,” he stated.
Through this data collection, it is expected that Cilegon City will establish an official database of its cultural assets, serving as a foundation for future cultural preservation policies and development. (***)
