CCN, Cilegon – Widespread flooding has struck several areas in Cilegon City, prompting Muhamad Ibrohim Aswadi, a member of the Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) from Commission II, to speak out about the situation. Aswadi, elected as a legislative member representing the Citangkil-Ciwandan electoral district for the Democratic Unity Faction, emphasized the need for serious intervention from the Cilegon City Government.
Muhamad Ibrohim Aswadi called for urgent collaboration between the Cilegon City Government and other stakeholders, including the industrial sector, to address this issue. “We urge the Cilegon City Government, together with other stakeholders, including the industrial sector, to sit down together,” Aswadi said. He stressed the importance of an integrated approach, covering issues from upstream to downstream.
“We should sit down together and handle it in an integrated manner. From upstream to downstream. What needs to be organized, certainly, are arrangements, deepening, and widening of river and canal flows,” he added.
Aswadi also proposed concrete steps to tackle the recurring flood problem in Cilegon City. One of them is the construction of drainage and tandonization cluster in 8 district points as temporary water storage ponds before reaching the open sea. He explained that planning should start from the upstream zones, such as the southern, western, eastern, and northern perimeters.
“This planning starts from its upstream zones, each of them. For example, the southern, western, eastern, and northern perimeters,” he explained. In addition, handling should also include downstream zones, involving railway tracks, national roads, and industrial areas with facilities leading to the open sea.
“This is done so that the flow of water can smoothly reach the open sea. Routine floods require discretion in policy and swift, concrete action from the government,” he said.
Aswadi added that the Cilegon City Government needs to develop a blueprint for green zoning as a buffer zone for protected forests in residential, industrial, and open sea areas. He also expressed concern about the lack of studies conducted regarding their previous requests on this matter.
“Both in residential and industrial areas and open sea areas. I personally often experience flooding in my house, and this is not done, even though we have requested a joint study,” he revealed.
As known, heavy and prolonged rainfall on Saturday, February 3, 2024, led to flooding in three districts in Cilegon City, eliciting concerns from the public and urging authorities to take prompt action. (ahdi)
