During the Isra’ Mi’raj event, Allah SWT showed Prophet Muhammad SAW depictions of the afterlife for individuals based on their varied deeds throughout their worldly life.

Every good deed, no matter how small, will be taken into account, and likewise, every sin, no matter how minor, will receive its consequences.

As stated in Surah Al-Zalzalah verses 7-8, outlining the rewards for those who do good and the repercussions for those engaged in wrongdoing during their worldly life. Allah SWT declares:

“Whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it,”

“And whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it.”

It is essential to understand that Isra’ Mi’raj comprises two significant events, serving as a journey to shape mental and extraordinary spiritual experiences for Prophet Muhammad SAW.

Isra’ linguistically means walking at night, and in terminology, it refers to Prophet Muhammad SAW’s journey from Masjidil Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, to Masjidil Aqsa in Jerusalem, Palestine. Mi’raj is the subsequent journey from Masjidil Aqsa through the seven heavens to Sidratul Muntaha, where Prophet Muhammad SAW received the command for the five daily prayers from Allah SWT.

Sheikh Ahmad Ad-Dardiri, in his work “Dardir Mi’raj,” details the spiritual journey and mental fortification of Prophet Muhammad SAW when encountering diverse depictions of the afterlife for his followers.

Among the afterlife depictions witnessed by Prophet Muhammad SAW during the Isra’ and Mi’raj event are:

1. The depiction of a group unwavering in their faith in Allah SWT.

2. The depiction of a group neglecting obligatory prayers.

3. The depiction of a group inclined towards charity.

4. The depiction of a group reluctant to give in charity.

5. The depiction of a group involved in robbery or theft.

6. The depiction of a group engaged in adultery.

7. The depiction of a group fond of consuming usurious wealth.

8. The depiction of a group not practicing what they preach.

9. The depiction of a group greedy for positions.

10. The depiction of a group fond of provoking others.

11. The depiction of a group fond of gossiping.

May we derive lessons from the encounters of Prophet Muhammad SAW during the Isra’ and Mi’raj event, leading to an increase in our faith and piety towards Allah SWT. Ameen.
