CCN, Cilegon, June 9, 2024 – A significant meeting between the Geger Cilegon commemoration committee and the Mayor of Cilegon, Helldy Agustian, successfully took place at the Cilegon City Government Office. In this meeting, the Mayor expressed his full support for the activities commemorating the historic Geger Cilegon event planned for July this year.
The meeting, attended by several community leaders and the commemoration committee, discussed various preparations to commemorate this historic event. The committee chairman, H. Asep Sofwatullah, outlined various plans and programs that will be implemented to honor the struggle of the people of Cilegon in 1888 against Dutch colonialism.
“We are committed to making the Geger Cilegon commemoration a significant moment for the people of Cilegon to remember and appreciate the services of the heroes. We highly anticipate the support from the city government to ensure the success of this event,” said H. Asep Sofwatullah.
In his address, the Mayor of Cilegon, Helldy Agustian, stated his commitment to fully supporting the commemoration activities. “The Geger Cilegon commemoration is an important part of our history. These values of struggle continue to live in the memory of our community, especially the younger generation, and must be supported together,” said Helldy Agustian.
The Mayor also added that the Geger Cilegon event is a symbol of the resistance and bravery of the people of Cilegon, which should serve as an example. “The spirit of struggle passed down by the heroes of Geger Cilegon must continue to be preserved and passed on to the next generation,” he emphasized.
The Geger Cilegon commemoration committee appreciated the support given by the Mayor of Cilegon. This support is considered crucial in mobilizing various community elements to participate in the commemoration activities planned to take place in July.
This commemoration event will include various activities such as khaul (memorial service), awarding certificates of appreciation, a festival, a historical re-enactment (napak tilas), and other positive activities related to the Geger Cilegon Event. It is hoped that these activities will increase awareness and pride in the community about the nation’s struggle history.
