CCN, Cilegon, Indonesia. The Communication Forum of Technical and Administrative Contract Workers (FORTRAH) in Cilegon City conducted a long march from the GBK building to the office of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly (DPR-RI) and a peaceful action that ignited the spirit of change. Thousands of contract workers from Cilegon, united under FORTRAH Cilegon, have presented three important demands for their recognition and welfare. (07-08 2023)
Firstly, FORTRAH Cilegon strongly urges DPR RI to immediately pass Bill No. 5 of 2014. This step is expected to elevate the status of all contract workers to become State Civil Apparatus (ASN) and Government Employees with Work Agreement (PPPK), providing a better future assurance for them.
Secondly, FORTRAH Cilegon emphasizes the need for the implementation of the latest Government Regulation (PP) by the President regarding the placement of contract workers as ASN or PPPK. With this new PP, it is hoped to create equality in status and rights, opening wide opportunities for equal chances.
The third demand is fair treatment through affirmative action in the selection of ASN/PPPK. FORTRAH Cilegon encourages the provision of fair treatment through affirmative mechanisms in the selection process. They believe that every contract worker has equal potential and hopes to receive extra points or special mechanisms ensuring equal opportunities in the selection process, similar to what has been provided to teachers and healthcare workers.
Mohamad Fathoni, the Presidium leader of FORTRAH Cilegon, highlighted the importance of realizing affirmative policies aligned with those received by teachers and healthcare workers. He hopes that regulations established by the Central Policy, such as lowering passing grades or adding specific points for contract workers who have served, can help support their efforts to attain deserving recognition and appreciation.
The peaceful action “Steps Together for Recognition” led by FORTRAH Cilegon is not only a struggle for their own cause but also an effort to create superior public services. Through cooperation and the spirit of change, FORTRAH Cilegon is determined to achieve a better future that has long been anticipated.
