CCN, Cilegon, June 29, 2024 – The atmosphere at Be Smart (BS) Cafe Ciwandan felt different last night. The place, which usually serves as a destination for young people to gather and discuss, was now filled with a thick traditional nuance. Ubrug Cilegon Milenial revived traditions with a performance themed “Awug-awug” at Be Smart Cafe Ciwandan. This event combines local wisdom with a cultural communication approach, targeting the younger generation to preserve Cilegon’s native culture amidst the hustle and bustle of modern life.
This performance, titled “Awug-awug,” highlighted a traditional Cilegon dish symbolizing local cultural wealth. Ubrug Cilegon Milenial, a group of creative youth, strives to revive old traditions that are beginning to be forgotten amidst the tide of globalization.
Edi Febriadi, one of the driving figures of Ubrug Cilegon, expressed his concern about the influx of foreign cultures that could threaten local cultural values in his speech. “Foreign cultures entering through the process of globalization can threaten the characteristics and cultural values in the city of Cilegon. Cilegon is rich in diverse cultures, each with its own uniqueness. The culture in the City of Cilegon also holds a charm with local wisdom that can attract many people’s attention,” he said. Edi also thanked Be Smart Cafe, the Cilegon City Education and Culture Department, the Cilegon city government, and the Cilegon DPRD for facilitating this event.
This roadshow is not just a performance but also a form of community service. Using a cultural communication approach, Ubrug Cilegon hopes to optimize the value of local wisdom and target young generations who are still innocent and vulnerable to foreign cultural influences. “In response to this phenomenon, Ubrug Cilegon is conducting community service activities through ubrug touring performances (roadshows) and a cultural communication approach to optimize the value of local wisdom by highlighting the theme of Awug-awug,” Edi added.
Aman Tajudin, a representative from BS Cafe, also expressed his appreciation for this event. “Thank you to the Ubrug Cilegon friends for coming to Be Smart Coffee Ciwandan. We hope this place becomes a space for expression and discussion,” he said.
The show was lively, with performances that captivated the audience. The excitement increased as visitors were invited to interact directly with the ubrug performers, taste the Awug-awug dish, and listen to folk tales from the Cilegon area.
Ubrug Cilegon hopes that this roadshow journey runs smoothly and can make a real contribution to preserving local culture. They aim to become a gateway of awareness for the community, especially the younger generation, to continue and learn about the region’s original culture amid the rampant use of gadgets that often divert attention.
