“Police Uncover Phone Theft and Fraud Case: Perpetrator Apprehended in Cilegon”

CCN, Cilegon. On Friday, June 23, 2023, around 11:00 AM local time, a mobile phone theft occurred on South Ring Road Ciwandan. The culprit initially fled but was later apprehended by the police from Polsek Mancak and local residents of Mancak. This incident went viral on social media.

The Chief of Police (Kapolres) of Cilegon, Banten Regional Police, AKBP Eko Tjahyo Untoro, confirmed through Kapolsek Purwakarta Polres Cilegon, IPTU Iwan Sofyan, that the initial incident of the mobile phone theft on South Ring Road Ciwandan, where the culprit initially fled but was later apprehended by the police from Polsek Mancak and local residents of Mancak, had gone viral on social media. However, the victim of the mobile phone theft did not report the incident to the police.

Furthermore, after interrogation, it was proven that the perpetrator had committed the crimes of fraud and embezzlement within the jurisdiction of Polsek Purwakarta Polres Cilegon, Banten Regional Police.

The perpetrator’s name is Ai alias Hendrik (30), a resident of Gunung Ipik Neighborhood, Bulakan Village, Cibeber District, Cilegon City.

Iwan explained that the incident began on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at around 6:30 PM local time when the reporter was invited to meet with the perpetrator, AI (30), in front of the Jogging Track at Krakatau Junction, Kotasari Street, Kotabumi Village, Purwakarta District, Cilegon City. The reason was to have the reporter’s motorcycle license plate stamped. Prior to this, the perpetrator had met the reporter three times and promised to assist the reporter in finding employment. The reporter had already given the perpetrator an amount of Rp 2,200,000 (Two Million Two Hundred Thousand Rupiah) as a job application fee.

After meeting at the location, the perpetrator pretended to borrow a Kawasaki Ninja RR motorcycle with license plate A-4815-GT, black color, frame number MH4KR150PDK62634, engine number KR150KEPE1105, manufactured in 2013, and a pink INK brand helmet belonging to the reporter, under the pretext of having the license plate stamped at the Sankyu factory. However, after borrowing the motorcycle, the perpetrator did not return it until now.

As a result of this incident, the reporter suffered a loss of approximately Rp 19,600,000 (Nineteen Million Six Hundred Thousand Rupiah). Subsequently, the victim reported the incident to the Purwakarta Police Station, Cilegon Regional Police.

The evidence seized includes one vehicle registration certificate (STNK) for the motorcycle and one proof of vehicle ownership (BKPB). Additionally, one original spare key box was taken from the victim, as well as one red Kawasaki KR150P (Ninja RR) motorcycle with license plate NRKB A 6949 CV (originally black and license plate NRKB A-4815-GT), frame number MH4KR150PDK62634, engine number KR150KEPE1105, manufactured in 2013, along with one original ignition key obtained from a witness.

The victim’s name is MI (19), a resident of Kedurung Neighborhood, Pabean Village, Purwakarta District, Cilegon City.

In this case, the perpetrator, Ai alias Hendrik (30), violated Article 378 and/or Article 372 of the Indonesian Penal Code (KUHP) with a maximum prison sentence of 4 (four) years. This was stated by IPTU Iwan Sofyan, the Kapolsek of Purwakarta Polres Cilegon, Banten Regional Police.
