“Bonnie” narrates the heroic journey of an 18-year-old girl named Bonnie (Livi Ciananta), skilled in martial arts. The story begins with a flashback of the teenage girl with her parents, attempting to face fights between gangs.
Raised by her mother, Kinanti (Nadila Ernesta), with excellent martial arts skills, Bonnie tries to adapt to a harsh school environment full of student clashes. Her martial arts prowess, while a strength, leads to conflicts with the school due to her tendency to protect the oppressed by physically confronting other students engaging in violence.
The film synopsis reveals that Bonnie’s dark past is linked to her mother’s vendetta against the family enemy, Paul, responsible for Bonnie’s father Sambara’s (Aryo Wahab) death. Initially unaware of the cause of her father’s death, Bonnie is forced to fight and discover the mastermind behind the heinous murder.
Bonnie’s struggle involves not only intense physical action but also a fight for justice and against injustice. Assisted by her friends, Gaga (Reza Hilman) and Macho (Macho Hungan), Bonnie must confront her true enemy, Paul, who harbors evil intentions towards Bonnie and her mother.
Featuring a non-linear narrative, “Bonnie” showcases Bonnie’s present life and her childhood with her father, Sambara. The film doesn’t just portray Bonnie’s fight against her enemies but also against oppression and injustice prevailing in society.
“Bonnie” is not just about delivering captivating action scenes but also presents heart-touching drama. Livi Ciananta, the female lead, hopes the film adds vibrancy to the Indonesian film industry while depicting women as brave individuals who stand against all forms of injustice. (red)
