CCN, Cilegon, August 10, 2024 – The Wonk Kite Theater Community, which has stood strong for 20 years, reaffirms its commitment to introducing the art of acting to the people of Cilegon. The community has organized numerous activities aimed at school children and young people, with the goal of providing positive activities and alternative education focused on character development through performance art.
The 2024 Wonk Kite Theater Festival, held this August, marks the pinnacle of the 20th Anniversary celebration of Teater Wonk Kite. This event is not just an artistic performance, but also a medium for complex and educational cultural reflection, combining various forms of art such as music, visual arts, theater, dance, and literature.
Hafid AlaFath, Chairman of FTWK 2024, expressed that this festival serves as a crucial moment for the development of art and culture in Cilegon. “We want to show that practicing art in Cilegon is not easy, but with the spirit of ‘We Create, We Are Valuable, We Are Wonk Kite,’ we continue to strive and collaborate with artists from both Cilegon and beyond. This festival is an opportunity to celebrate our hard work and dedication over the past 20 years, and we extend our gratitude to everyone who has supported us,” said Hafid.
Fajrin Alwi, President of Teater Wonk Kite, added that this festival also serves as a platform to invigorate the spirits of actors amidst the industrial hustle and bustle of Cilegon. “We have joyfully performed on stages and in venues across the city. The stage is the highest class in the process of theater, and we aim to continue inspiring the public that theater is not just entertainment, but also an educational and social reflection medium,” Fajrin explained.
The 2024 Wonk Kite Theater Festival will showcase various theatrical performances from art communities in Cilegon, including performances by Duta Seni KS, Sanggar Seni Banyu Biru, UKM Sebawon, SMPN 3 Kota Cilegon, Lisbu Uniba, GAKSA, Teater Tanah Rungkad SMA Al-Khairiyah 4, SMK Miftahul Huda, Tosca Production SMKN 2 Kota Cilegon, Sanggar Wonk Kite, Mime Theater Wonk Kite, as well as a special theater performance titled “Pengadilan Halah,” directed by Fathu Rizki.
Additionally, the festival will feature a cultural discussion themed “Determining the Direction of Art and Culture in Cilegon,” with Ahdi Zukhruf Amri (Chairman of the Cilegon Art Council), Syaiful Iskandar (Cilegon Historian), Yuli Hadyana (Composer), and Ega Prayoga (President of GAKSA) as speakers. The discussion will also be attended by Evi from Dindikbud Cilegon and Andre, the newly elected council member for 2024.
“This festival is not just about art, but also about promoting local artists’ work and demonstrating that there is still space for art and culture in this city,” said Hafid AlaFath. “We hope that through FTWK 2024, the people of Cilegon will become more familiar with and appreciate theater art, and provide greater opportunities for artists to continue creating.”
With a complete and diverse range of events, this festival is expected to become a new milestone in the cultural journey of Cilegon and strengthen the relationship between art communities within and outside the city.
