CCN, Cilegon -The Cultural Heritage Preservation Center (BPK) Region VIII, along with the Cilegon City Education and Culture Office (Dindikbud) and the Cilegon City Cultural Council, has completed the data collection of objects suspected of being cultural heritage sites.
This four-day activity was carried out to identify and document the historical and cultural heritage of Cilegon City.
The joint team surveyed several key locations and successfully documented a number of objects, including:
Menara Kapur (Chalk Tower): An ancient structure with the potential to be a historical marker for the region.
Makam Ki Somad (Ki Somad’s Tomb): The site of a local figure with historical and spiritual value.
Yayasan Maulana Hasanuddin (Maulana Hasanuddin Foundation): A building related to a key figure in the spread of Islam in Banten.
Makam Ki Wasyid (Ki Wasyid’s Tomb): The final resting place of an influential freedom fighter.
Masjid Sumpah (Oath Mosque): A historic mosque closely tied to important events of the past.
Artefak Nyi Bernok/Ki Lurah Rouf Jayalaksana (Nyi Bernok/Ki Lurah Rouf Jayalaksana Artifacts): Historical objects believed to be relics of these figures.
Kawasan Makam Syekh Ibrohim & Buyut Parlon (Sheikh Ibrohim & Buyut Parlon Tomb Complex): A burial complex for two significant figures.
Batu Lubang (Japanese Bunker).
Sumur Batu Lebak Gede (Lebak Gede Stone Well): An ancient well with a unique stone structure.
Sumur Tujuh (Seven Wells): A sacred well site steeped in local folklore.
Makam Ratu Sarifah (Ratu Sarifah’s Tomb): The tomb of an influential female figure from the past.
This data collection is a crucial first step in preserving cultural heritage. The next phase will involve a verification process by a team of experts to determine the official status of each object as a cultural heritage site.
“This data collection activity is very important for protecting and preserving our cultural heritage. The collaboration between the Cultural Heritage Preservation Center, Dindikbud Cilegon, and the Cilegon Cultural Council demonstrates the local government’s strong commitment to safeguarding the historical identity of Cilegon City,” said Saiful Iskandar, a representative of the data collection team and the Head of the Tangible Cultural Heritage Division of the Cilegon City Cultural Council, on Thursday, September 11, 2025.
Through this initiative, it is hoped that the public will become more aware of the importance of protecting historical sites and work together to preserve Cilegon’s rich cultural assets. (Red)
