Cilegon, CCN — A member of the Cilegon City Council from the Gerindra Party, Faturohmi, has officially submitted a written proposal concerning the Draft Regional Regulation (Raperda) on the Development and Advancement of Regional Culture. This proposal aims to strengthen the legal foundation for the preservation and development of local culture in Cilegon City.

Faturohmi explained that the development of regional culture requires serious attention in accordance with the mandate of Law Number 5 of 2017 on the Advancement of Culture. “In implementing the law, we in the Cilegon City Council want a Regional Regulation (Perda) that specifically governs cultural values in the region, especially in Cilegon City,” he said.

Law Number 5 of 2017 stipulates that culture encompasses all aspects of society’s creativity, taste, initiative, and works. Therefore, this Raperda is expected to serve as a legal framework for comprehensively translating cultural values and encouraging their application in the community.

Faturohmi emphasized the importance of preserving Cilegon’s cultural wealth, from the original language to customs that reflect the identity of the community. “We want the original language of Cilegon to once again become an integral part of community life, especially for the younger generation,” he said. He added that customs, oral traditions, cultural arts, and architectural designs with regional nuances need to be preserved to prevent them from being eroded by modern developments.

In this cultural advancement effort, community participation is a crucial requirement that is realized through four strategic steps: protection, development, utilization, and cultural empowerment.

1. Protection is an effort to ensure cultural continuity through inventory, safeguarding, maintenance, preservation, and publication.

2. Development is an effort to revitalize the cultural ecosystem and to enhance, enrich, and disseminate culture.

3. Utilization involves optimizing cultural advancement objects to strengthen ideology, politics, economics, society, culture, defense, and security to achieve national goals.

4. Empowerment is the effort to build the capacity of cultural human resources, cultural institutions, and cultural practices to increase and expand active community participation and initiatives.

Furthermore, Faturohmi hopes this Raperda will be approved by the Regional Regulation Formation Board (Bapemperda) to be included in the 2025 Regional Legislative Program (Prolegda). “The Raperda on Regional Cultural Development and Advancement is essential to be realized in Cilegon City. Hopefully, Bapemperda can include it in next year’s Prolegda,” he added.

This Raperda is expected to be a strategic step to strengthen the cultural identity of Cilegon City and serve as a foundation for cultural development that is adaptive to modern challenges. (***)
