CCN, Cilegon. The Department of Education and Culture of Cilegon held a seminar event to propose “National Hero Candidates” for Cilegon City, which took place at the Royal Krakatau Hotel. The event was intended to gather and identify local history that is useful as information for students, researchers, and the Cilegon community. Two figures that will be proposed by the Cilegon government are KH. Wasyid and KH. Arsyad Thowil. (Thursday, 27 April 2023)
Heni Anita Susila, the Leader of the Department of Education and Culture, stated that the Cilegon government is currently collecting the necessary historical facts and requirements for the two proposed national heroes. “Regarding these two heroes, we need a considerable amount of information data, so it may take months to collect them. The assessment team has also surveyed Manado and Ambon, and referenced Mecca.”
Heni also added that the city government has appointed an expert team leader by Prof. Mukti Ali.
The seminar was opened by Cilegon Mayor Helldy Agustian. Helldy stated that the proposal for the National Hero Candidates is still in process. “Until now, the requirements are still in the process because Cilegon is famous for its history of the Cilegon Incident, where 99 ulamas were exiled throughout Indonesia, and there has never been a national hero from Cilegon.”
Helldy also added that the Cilegon city government is proposing two heroic figures who are deemed worthy to be proposed according to historical assessments. “Therefore, we are proposing KH. Wasyid and KH. Arsyad Thowil, who are experts and understand the stories, as the sources are taken from the Netherlands and the documents have been extensively collected, so later the historical order can be arranged like that,” said the Cilegon Mayor.
Helldy hopes that the proposed national heroes can become a source of pride for the people of Cilegon. “We hope and pray that Allah will bless what is proposed, and of course, this will be a pride for the people of Cilegon because until now, there has been no national hero from Cilegon.” Helldy hopes that through this national seminar, the title of national hero can be the beginning of honoring the ancestors and figures who have been role models in the past, as a form of service to those who have served in Banten, especially in Cilegon.
