CCN, Cilegon, – The Government Cilegon City Government through the Department of Education and Culture held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on the Study of the Geger Cilegon 1888 Monument. The event, which took place on Thursday, July 11, 2024, was attended by junior high school teachers throughout Cilegon City, institutions, foundations, history communities, historians, and cultural observers from Cilegon.**
This activity is the government’s initial step to gather information in order to introduce the Geger Cilegon 1888 Memorial Monument and its history to the public. The Cilegon City Department of Education and Culture is studying the Memorial Monument to complete the local historical heritage. This study involves a team of researchers who will further examine the monument so that it can become a commemorative symbol capable of educating and inspiring the public.
The Head of the Department of Education and Culture, Hj. Heni Anita Susila, expressed her support for this activity in her speech. “With in-depth study and research, we can provide valid preliminary data that can be scientifically accountable in collaboration with the research team led by Dadan Sujana. This will be a strong foundation for preservation and cultural advancement steps in Cilegon City as well as preparatory materials that will become museum collections, which we are currently working on,” she said.
She also emphasized the importance of studying this historical monument to develop local historiography, which still lacks information. It is hoped that the results of this research can uncover and restore the historical values contained within, so that the younger generation can better appreciate and understand the struggle history in Cilegon City.
Additionally, the Cilegon City Government is planning changes to the Mayor of Cilegon’s Official Residence, which was designated as a cultural heritage building in 2023, as well as the Detail Engineering Design (DED) of the Cilegon City Museum, focused on the Official Residence. The Head of the Cultural Division, Eva Warni, reported that the implementation of this activity refers to various established legal foundations, such as Law Number 11 of 2010 on Cultural Heritage, Law Number 56 of 2017 on Regional Cultural Advancement, Government Regulation Number 66 of 2015 on Museums, and Minister of Education and Culture Regulation Number 71 of 2016 on Historical Sources. Thus, the efforts to preserve and develop historical heritage can be carried out in a structured manner and in accordance with regulations.
This FGD on the Study of the Geger Cilegon 1888 Memorial Monument is expected to provide valuable input to the Cilegon City Government regarding the monument study. “Through this Focus Group Discussion, I hope we can produce an in-depth and comprehensive study. The results of this study will certainly be an important consideration in the preservation efforts of the Geger Cilegon 1888 Monument. We also hope this activity can raise public awareness about the importance of historical values and support the efforts to preserve the historical heritage we have,” added Hj. Heni Anita Susila.
