Cilegon, CCN – In conjunction with the inauguration of the new management of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) Cilegon City for the period 2024-2027, a heated discussion on the commitment of mayoral candidates to transform Cilegon into a smart city was held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. The event was attended by five prospective candidates for Mayor of Cilegon, including Nurrotul Uyun from the Justice and Prosperity Party (PKS).
Nurrotul Uyun expressed her appreciation to PWI Cilegon for organizing this event. “I am delighted to be here this morning. This event is extraordinary, a very solid idea organized by PWI Cilegon. Let’s give applause to PWI, Kang Ican, and colleagues. Congratulations on your duties, continued success, and providing abundant information to the people of Cilegon,” she said.
In the discussion, Nurrotul Uyun emphasized the importance of transparency in government policies and budgets to achieve good governance. “The key to good local governance lies in transparent management, both in policy and budget, especially when supported by the concept of a smart city,” she said. She added that public participation is a crucial element in realizing transparency. “Transparency can only be achieved if the community participates in governing.”
Nurrotul Uyun also outlined concrete steps to realize Cilegon as a smart city. “We must leverage this era of digitalization to facilitate access to information for the public. The implementation of a smart city system will maximize various parameters such as smart economy, smart government, and smart mobility. This is not just a slogan but must be realized in every aspect of governance,” she explained.
According to her, good governance will provide space for the community to participate, oversee, and provide input into the policies adopted. “Good governance should provide space for the community to participate in the development process, assess the achievements of local governments.”
The inauguration and discussion event are expected to contribute positively to the democratic process in Cilegon. The new Chairman of PWI Cilegon, Kang Ican, also expressed his commitment to enhancing journalistic quality in the city. “We are determined to present more profound and investigative information, not just quick news summaries. This is crucial to distinguish professional journalists from social media users,” Kang Ican said.
